iContribute is a not for profit startup organization that connects students to local volunteer opportunities.
Mission Statement:
Our goal is to foster community involvement amongst youth. The iContribute platform connects high school and university students to volunteer opportunities in their area. We have partnered with registered charities, non-profit organizations, and community organizations to present volunteer opportunities to students so that they can make an impact in their local communities.
At iContribute, safety is a number one priority. As a result, our co-founding team thoroughly verifies and vets each organization that comes onboard through a three-factor authentication process.
Here is how our vetting process works:
We make sure that the organization is registered as a charity or non-profit organization on Canada Revenue Agency's website.
We manually verify every organization's website to make sure they have a credible site.
Lastly, we have a face-to-face call with the volunteer coordinator of the organization to validate their identity.
All of these steps occur before the organizer is able to make an account on our platform. A member of our team reviews each organization’s account before they can post volunteer opportunities. Despite our best efforts at verifying every volunteer organization on our platform, students must still volunteer at their own discretion.
In response to COVID-19, the iContribute team has recently rolled out the option for Organizations to post Virtual Opportunities, so that users can volunteer from the comfort of their home.
Here is an excerpt of some tips from the WHO:
- Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, or clean them with alcohol-based hand rub.
- Maintain at least 1 metre distance between you and people coughing or sneezing.
- Avoid touching your face. Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
- Stay home if you feel unwell.
- Refrain from smoking and other activities that weaken the lungs.
- Practice physical distancing by avoiding unnecessary travel and staying away from large groups of people.
